Finding an electrician, a journeyman, a foreman, a cabling puller or a fire alarm technician can often prove incredibly difficult and incredibly frustrating. Instead of relying on referrals, lengthy interviews and an arduous decision making process, why not allow a staffing service to complete the hard work for you? With a good electrical staffing service, all you need to do is ask for what you want, and the technician needed will arrive at your doorstep.

Electrical staffing agencies are a dream come true for employers and employees alike. As an employer, you are able to place your trust in a reliable company to take care of something that can be very time consuming. Most agencies focus on keeping a large variety of staff that have been prescreened and are held to the highest of safety and training standards. When looking for an employee, many agencies offer a simple online form that you can fill out to request a quote and specific time and skills. By using temporarily provided staff, employers can save on time and employee costs. You will not be required to track and pay for an employee’s field costs separately. Expenses such as FICA, SUTA, FUTA, unemployment, state and local taxes, worker’s compensation and associated payroll costs will no longer be on your plate. Many agencies will also pay for bookkeeping, recruiting and advertising for staff so that you are free to concentrate on the job at hand.

As an employee looking to find a job, an electrical staffing agency can be a great way to find employment and see new places at the same time. As a temporary employee, you will work from one contract to the next, but many agencies have so much work right now that technicians barely have time for a day off much less to complain about breaks between jobs. Holiday and vacation pay are pretty standard for agencies, and most offer insurance. For agencies trying to maintain a solid and reliable reputation, safety incentive programs are becoming more and more popular as a way to help employees keep up to date on safety procedures and practices. As a part of an electrical staffing agency, you could find yourself using your electrician skills in a new mall in Colorado, installing CAT5 cable to update an office in Ohio, working in a $500,000 home in Georgia, or converting an old ski lodge to a mental health facility in Pennsylvania. These agencies offer competitive pay, and are always looking to hire electricians, project managers, journeymen, cable techs, AutoCAD engineers and more.

Whether you live in Arkansas and are desperately in search of a job or are a company looking for ten reliable electricians for a new project in California, electrical staffing agencies with a national database and experienced recruiters are the answer. With most having easy to navigate websites in addition to toll free numbers, there is no reason not to learn more about making your work life just that much easier.

If your business is moving into a new location or is about to update the voice and data network in an existing facility, it’s important to work with the right structured cabling contractor. As with any business arrangement, you want to make sure the outcome is in the best interests of the business operation. Choosing the right voice and data cabling contractor will mean your voice and data network will be good to go for four to five years before another upgrade is necessary.

Track Records Matter

As you start evaluating various structured cabling contractors in the area, take the time to learn a little about each one. Specifically, you want to know how long each voice and data contractor has been in business. Longevity is one of the things you want in this type of installation contractor. A company that has been in business for several years is obviously doing something right and is worth looking at a little more closely. Don’t rely on longevity alone. While it is a good indicator of quality work, it is not the only factor. Find out what you can about the experience that the owners bring to the table. You may find a voice and data cabling contractor that is only a couple of years old, but is owned and operated by people with an impressive amount of experience in the industry.

How Do They Do Things?

Getting an idea of how each structured cabling installation contractor works will also help you narrow the list of candidates. If the company doesn’t start with some sort of preliminary assessment of the facility and the communication needs for your business, see that as a warning sign. This type of assessment, sometimes known as pre-fielding, is essential in order to develop a plan of action that gets your voice and data network up and running quickly with minimum interruption in the business operation. For your part, that preliminary assessment is also the chance to see how different structured cabling contractors do with collecting information about what you want to accomplish with the cabling. Contractors who look around, nod their heads and say they will be in touch are not what you need. Focus your attention on structured cabling contractors who assess the physical aspects of the facility, ask questions about how your company uses voice and data communications and then really listen to the responses.

And the Final Cost Is…

You want the highest quality voice and data network for the lowest possible price. After you’ve identified several potential structured cabling installation contractors that seem like reasonable candidates, invite them to submit a formal proposal. Prepare a Request For Proposal (RFP) that covers all the specific questions you want answered, up to and including a breakdown on the pricing. Make sure to set a due date for submission and do not accept any proposals that arrive after that date. Scrutinize the contents of those proposals very carefully. What you hope to find is that one of the structured cabling contractors provides clear and concise information for every question found in the RFP, includes a comprehensive breakdown on the costs, and perhaps goes the extra mile and includes other information that will aid you in making the decision. Keep in mind that the cheapest price is not necessarily the best choice. If you have to spend a little more to create a cabling network that will serve the business well for several years, consider that money well invested.

Concept for cloud computing with drawing on napkin

Although the cloud is becoming more and more of a household name, it still hasn’t been fully embraced by the majority of large companies, due to a low level of available security. The original idea behind the cloud was to make the power used to run large amounts of computers cheaper, more of a standard like electricity from a national grid. Unfortunately, though cloud-computing is on it’s way to becoming more cost effective, most companies are still relying on standard network cabling systems to get the job done. But technicians beware, new companies like Nicira are coming out with superior software that may change the future of cabling.

Amazon and other companies have churned out some great money saving cloud services, but many large corporations have decided to stay true to their own computer networks and resources. This can be seen as the equivalent of a house owner deciding to only use a generator for electricity, rather than rely on a a touch and go standard power system. The reason behind this is security issues — the way the network is built allows for easy reconfiguration, and makes the cloud shaky and less reliable. And providers who offer cloud computing services often run a whole data center on a single shared network. For example, if the large companies of Soda and Pop decided to both use one public cloud service, though all data storage is separate, they could be sharing the same network connection. This means that anyone who hacks into Soda’s data can quickly gain access to Pop’s as well. In addition, any days with a lot of computer action on Pop’s network will make Soda’s data transfers slower.

Founded in 2007, Nicira, which means vigilant in Sanskrit, is on a mission to make cloud computing more accessible and push the Internet to be more powerful than before. Their first step towards this goal is with the Network Virtualization Platform. This piece of technology is definitely for data centers and other companies with large networks — the common laptop owner can have a very difficult time understanding what it does. To break it down slightly, when this software is applied to a date center, it is able to stop the applications and programs that are functioning on the servers from interacting with any other network hardware. After this has been accomplished, a virtual network will create connections for the applications to run data. Basically, it does a better job than the physical switches and routers and makes them less important.

This technology allows users of the cloud to have the power to securely store and transfer their data. An administrator could easily reprogram the network using Nicira’s Network Virtualization Platform and specify each application their own connection, separate from the rest of the internet. This means that Soda’s big day of data transfers will not affect Pop. This kind of freedom is highly coveted in the networking world, and other companies are striving to keep up with the changing industry.
