Outsource Opens Second Location in Florida

 

Outsource is pleased to celebrate the September 20, 2022 opening of our new office in Miramar, Florida. It is our second office in Florida (along with Tampa), and the company’s 22nd location nationwide.

Tri-County Coverage

The office will serve the tri-county region of southern Florida, from Miami to West Palm Beach and handles both low voltage and electrical verticals.

The South Florida office is led by Stephen Pelaez, who has been with Outsource for five years and brings a wealth of experience and established contacts in the region from his previous position working in our Tampa office. Stephen will be joined by Joe Marchesano, who will serve as the location’s Sourcer, and the two are ready to take advantage of the area’s booming economy and rapid expansion.

Dedicated Training Space

The new location will also have a dedicated training space that is expected to be operating by Q1 of 2023. The location will train low voltage cabling and electrical technicians to create a viable talent pool of skilled talent to meet the high demands of the rapidly growing market. Our specialized training is perfect for those looking to transition into a skilled trade and we also offer the OSHA 10 course that covers job safety, health, as well as job site etiquette.

Tool Set for Trainees

Training at the Miramar office is not only free, but Outsource will also pay you for your time upon successful completion of the course. Trainees will also leave with a complete set of tools, including a tool pouch, a punch down tool, a multibit screwdriver, snips, sharpie, electrical tape, and PPE (hard hat, safety gloves, safety glasses, and safety vest).

Outsource Continues To Grow With New Charlotte Office

 

Outsource is pleased to announce the June 1, 2022 opening of our Charlotte office, the company’s 18th location nationwide.

Charlotte’s Booming Economy

The office is led by Shelby Singer, who has been with Outsource for over five (5) years, working in Sales & Account Management in San Diego. She takes on the new adventure with her fiancé and their dog, Mila. With the move to Charlotte, we will be perfectly placed to take advantage of the city’s booming economy and rapid expansion. The city is one of the country’s major banking hubs and offers easy access to North and South Carolina. The office will serve both low voltage and electrical verticals.

Dedicated Training Space

The new location is complete with dedicated training space and we are already looking to hire a Recruiter by the end of June to focus exclusively on the Charlotte market. Until then, Nashville’s Branch Leader Garret Godwin will be serving as Shelby’s right-hand man and processing orders for Charlotte.

Growing Talent Pool of Technicians

The location will train low voltage cabling and electrical technicians to create a viable talent pool of skilled talent to meet the high demands of the rapidly growing market. Out specialized training is perfect for those looking to transition into a skilled trade. All trainees are also provided with an OSHA 10 course that covers jobsite health and safety

Free Training Provided

Training is provided free of charge and all trainees are paid for every hour that they spend in the program. A global pandemic means times are uncertain, stressful and even a bit frightening. While the COVID-19 outbreak has not only caused a health crisis it has also caused an economic crisis as well. In a matter of weeks, millions of people found themselves suddenly out of work; and millions more still are left uncertain about whether their companies will last through this crisis. Conducting a job search during these uncertain times can feel like an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be.

While the numbers are bleak and you are probably anxious, there is good news. Companies across the country are hiring right now and many companies still have long-term plans to hire throughout the year. Meaning, the best thing for you to do right now is to continue your job search, despite your anxiety. Follow these tips to keep your job search on track through COVID-19.

Remember, This is Temporary

While no one knows how long this will last, the one thing they can say for certain is that this is temporary. It will end one day and the economy will open back up. The people who kept their nose to the grindstone and kept up their job search throughout the downtime are the ones that will rise up and go the farthest when things get back to something resembling normalcy.

Search Every Day

If you have already lost your job or you are in danger of losing your job, make sure you are doing search-related activities for a few hours every single day. You don’t need to spend eight hours a day searching for jobs as this can be daunting, but you should do a few hours, at least. Then, spend time decompressing with your family, taking a walk outside and looking for silver linings where you can find them.

Be Smart, Be Safe

Many employers are making use of video chats for interviews so make sure you’re comfortable with this technology and how it works. While many are opting for video interviews, some are still holding in-person interviews. If you do meet with an employer in-person, make sure to maintain at least 6 feet of distance, do not shake hands, try to avoid touching metal or glass surfaces, and wash your hands/use hand sanitizer. Not following these guidelines could result in your job search getting cut short.

Be Reachable

Now is not the time to screen calls. If a potential employer can’t reach you, they will move on to someone else as many people are searching for jobs right now. Make sure to check your email throughout the day and respond to any potential employer’s outreach within 24 hours. Keep your phone on you at all times and answer calls from unknown numbers. If you don’t feel comfortable answering every call, make sure that your voicemail is set up as many employers will leave a voicemail. Remember to return these calls promptly so you do not miss out.

Be Reliable

Even being a few seconds late to a phone or video interview can cost you a job right now. Verify that you have the date and time correct and test links to video chats at least an hour before the meeting and notify the employer if there is a problem. Finally, just as you would arrive early to an interview, sign in or dial in at least 10 minutes early – unless you are specifically instructed otherwise.

Insist on Quiet

If you have a family sharing one space, it can be difficult to find quiet for an interview. Luckily, many of us in the job search are in the same boat and employers will understand if a child comes bursting in the room during an interview, but finding a quiet place to hold the interview so that you can concentrate and put your best foot forward. Send your family on a walk or bike ride, or if you can’t find quiet, sit in your car. Ensure that your background is somewhat professional and be aware of what photos and posters may be visible behind you.

Use Your Downtime Wisely

If you have lost your job, it’s important to keep busy. Being in isolation in addition to being unemployed can be a recipe for depression. Just as you block off time every day to search for jobs, block off time to learn a new skill or hone an existing one. There are a myriad of free resources online and many formerly-paid programs are being offered for free as people are struggling with the economic impact of COVID-19. Learning something new will not only pass the time in a constructive way, but it will also help you enhance your resume.

Be Visible On Social Media

Social distancing is a great excuse to forego in-person networking for social networking. So get visible on LinkedIn by participating in groups and getting in touch with contacts you haven’t spoken with in a while. This is also a great time to make professional Facebook and Twitter profiles to share industry-related posts and information.

This competition is forcing hiring companies to refine their methods so they can attract the top talent.

That doesn’t mean your organization can’t be the one that’s bringing in the best of the best. But you might need to do some fine-tuning to your hiring techniques to start finding and bringing in the right candidates.

Here are some suggestions to consider:

Take a Closer Look at Your Job Descriptions

It is harder to attract the right candidates if the job description had insufficient information about the job requirements and the responsibilities of the role. Break down the primary responsibilities of the position and clearly state the skills, experience, and qualifications that you’re looking for from each applicant. 

For example, if the job of a cable technician entails the pulling and routing of cable in a commercial environment, make sure you have that in the posting. If you expect the candidate to assist the more experienced technicians with certain tasks, include that also.

How much previous experience must a candidate have? Should they be able to understand schematics and other drawings? Must they have their own tools and safety gear?

Write a job description that accurately reflects the role, and then start on the job posting.

Draft an Appealing Job Posting

The specifics of the job are critical for attracting candidates with the necessary skills, but the rest of the posting should be designed to make the position and your company stand out from the competition.

This part of the posting should include information about the perks your company offers:

  • Flexible schedules
  • Four-day work week
  • Social events
  • Gym fees
  • Discount programs

It’s also where you’ll to include any opportunities for career advancement, training, and mentoring programs. You can describe the company culture in a positive light, and you can list any other after-work activities that showcase your business as a fun place to work.

Re-think Your Approach to Interviewing

Another effective way to make sure you’re getting the best candidate is to fine-tune your interview techniques. While traditional interviews help you get to know a candidate, they don’t reveal much about many of the soft skills that you’re looking for: teamwork, communication, and creative thinking, for example.

Group interviews might be the answer. When you test your candidates by assigning them a task, the group can assess them on these skills, and your chances of finding the perfect candidate will be much improved.

Here are some safe cable-pulling practices that you should pass on to your workers to create a safer working environment for them:

Have a Safety Plan in Place

The plan would include emergency actions, evacuations, and meeting building codes. A safety plan will be invaluable if there are problems, and it will also help mitigate any legal issues.

Avoid Do-it-Yourself Electrical Projects

Only trained and experienced professional electricians should be involved in cable and wire installation. Amateurs and electricity make a dangerous combination. Do-it-yourself projects are relatively safe endeavors until it’s time for the electrical work. Whether it’s on the job or at home, the electrician, who is experienced and familiar with cable installation, is the one to call. Electricians already understand safety protocols and guidelines, so don’t take any chances by doing it yourself.

Check Your Equipment

Although faulty wiring can lead to safety hazards, so can equipment that isn’t operating properly. You can reduce risks by ensuring your machinery is in working order, and the tools you’re using to handle the wiring and cables are the right ones for the job.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

You never know where you’ll be asked to install wire and cables. It could be some out-of-the-way location where you’ll be working in an awkward position. You might be working at great heights or underground, out in the open or in a concealed space. You could even be working in proximity to water.

Check out the area ahead of time, and identify any potential safety concerns. Be aware and then prepare.

Dress For the Part

Wear protective clothing whenever you’re handling cable and wire. The potential for sparking or other electrical risks is always there, so flame-retardant clothing is a safe bet. Use non-conductive gloves and protect your eyes with safety glasses. If you’re in an area with the possibility of falling material, wear a hard hat. Specific shoes can prevent slipping and protect your feet if you drop something on them.

Test Everything You Have Wired

Before you allow access to the work area, test everything several times. Even though it’s connected, there is no guarantee it’s working correctly. Thorough testing will tell you whether it is and will save you time and aggravation down the road.

Make Sure the Cable Placements are Correct

Once you’ve finished testing the connection, all that’s left is to make sure the cables are placed so that they don’t interfere with daily activities. Also, be sure to safely dispose or store old, unused, or extra cable or wire.
