Outsource was represented at the UCLA Jobs Fair earlier this month by four UCLA graduates, including Jenny Zhao (Business Development Manager), Brett Hays (Inside Sales), Amanda Delzell (Recruiter), and Brie Harvey (Director of Recruitment). It was a great opportunity to tell UCLA students about Outsource and introduce them to the staffing world. Zhao noted that some of the representatives of Outsource were in the same situation as the students not even a year ago, so they were particularly qualified to inform students about the young, dynamic culture at Outsource and they served as ideal examples of how quickly new talent can have an impact at Outsource.

As a native of San Antonio, one of the reasons Jenny enjoys working at Outsource is she can return home for longer stays due to the fact that she can work out of the San Antonio office. Many of the potential hires that met the team were interested in markets like San Francisco and Seattle, where Outsource is already established. Now with 18 offices across the country, the company’s national presence is one of the big bonuses of working for Outsource. This was a big attraction for several new hires who wanted to take advantage of Outsource’s national footprint, which enables them to explore different corners of the country and meet their colleagues in various locations.

The competitive nature of the staffing business set in a team environment was especially attractive to many Bruin student-athletes, according to Brett Hays, who also said, “It was great to get back to campus and recruit future Outsource team members.” Besides the number of athletes they met, Delzell remarked at how many sophomore and junior students attended the jobs fair and were interested in internship opportunities at Outsource, especially after the team explained what daily life and the culture is like at Outsource. The idea to attend the jobs fair went into effect once Harvey received approval from the Executive Team to register with the fair, which offered fantastic visibility for Outsource. Not only UCLA students, but also other companies represented at the fair were impressed to see a table full of UCLA graduates. As far as the future is concerned, Harvey says, “We are working on new marketing literature for other job fairs in hopes of implementing the same system the team applied at UCLA.”

As reports roll in of stalled and halted construction work soaring annually and dissolution of companies putting electricians out of work, more electrical professionals are looking towards fringe fields to find jobs. The statistics speak to a slow in the frequency of paid electrical work, and sadly, in some cases actual unemployment. While many traditional outlets for electrical jobs are dryer than usual, there are those areas that are growing and thriving. Sustainable building and renewable energy sources are both booming industries. The public and private funding for renewable energy projects continues to be prolific even as other pursuits fall away. There are electrical staffing agencies that work with companies specifically focused on projects in renewable energy. There are also staffing companies that work particularly to find workers for renewable energy projects. Both sorts of these staffing agencies are often seeking electrical workers and electricians. While there are multiple types of renewable energy construction projects, many of them do require electricians, even those with no notably education or training in renewable sources of energy.

Wind energy, which uses windmills and turbines to harvest wind power and turn it into electrical energy is often employed on coastlines and in large field lands where wind is plentiful. Because these mechanisms work to make electrical power, electricians are needed for the building and installation of wind power implements and for the upkeep and maintenance of the system. Clients looking to construct wind power operations often turn to electrical staffing companies for qualified electricians. The equipment for such work is a little different but the concepts and applications come from the same world as general electrical construction work. There are training courses to be taken for such employment, though on the job experience and apprenticeship can be an even more effective way to get placed in these jobs by an electrical staffing agency.

In simple terms, geothermal energy is the harvesting of the heat created in the earth’s crust by plate tectonic shifts. This collection of radioactive mineral decay is then processed into electrical energy for human use. This energy source is especially in need of electrical engineers and skilled technicians. This earth-heat energy must move through a geothermal plant where it is converted into electrical energy through binary cycle electricity generating technology, a process which requires a large amount of electrical wiring and design. This is a field that almost always requires special training of some kind, but the work is electrical and electrical staffing agencies are often unitized to find qualified workers.

Solar energy is captured using precisely designed panels that harvest the energy of the sun and turn it into useable electric energy. Solar energy is on of the biggest cross over fields for electricians and there are staffing agencies just for electrical/solar work. Solar plants are highly electrical in there design and in sunny locations electricians can even find work installing and maintaining solar energy hook up in private homes and businesses. Electrical staffing agencies serve to place electrical workers in jobs they might not expect. Broadening the horizons of electrical staffing into renewable energy electric work stands to benefit both workers and electrical staffing agencies.

As civilization fords on, and development continues, fire security and fire precautions will always be a needed industry. It is certainly true however, that certain factors contribute to the amount of fire alarm security jobs available (or not available) in any particular region. In the U.S., as well as in Europe, the suffering economy has slowed or even halted the growth of new building and development which has slowed the work available in the fire alarm security field. Many specialists and technicians in this area of expertise have begun to look abroad for continuing career opportunities. Within this fire alarm security ‘migration’ there are several international locations that are receiving special attention both for the availability of work and the attractiveness of living and working in these locales.

A U.S. State, one of the big advantages of moving to Hawaii to work in fire alarm security is that you won’t need a visa to live or to be employed there. A beautiful place, this tropical state is also the home to a large amount of tourism. Tourism requires large population building, both to go up in new development and to be renovated and maintained. This existence of hotel and recreation buildings of high volume, means that building and maintenance workers are always in demand. Residence is also growing in numbers, especially in the more urban areas on the larger islands. The codes, processes and legal requirements will also be the same as the rest of the country, making the knowledge transfer easier. Besides the abundance of available work, Hawaii is a utopia to live in. With paradise-like temperatures and copious beaches, the leisure time you spend between work promises to be wonderful. And with a cost of living less than most of California, the money you make in fire alarm security will afford you a good quality of life.

Though the region title is broad, countries like Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are developing at an alarming rate. With foreign infrastructure coming in from Asia, Europe and the U.S., as well as local development into modern and even cutting edge building practices, fire alarm technicians are in high demand. While there is a general opinion that the Middle East is unstable, it is in many ways the newest breakthrough market of modernization. Some areas are war torn and unpredictable which is undesirable both for living and for technical business growth. Others are, however more dependable and very safe place to live, especially for foreigners. The climate, though arid, is dry and warm, and the cost of living very friendly. Acquiring the correct work visa can be tricky, but for those in areas of work needed in these countries, is usually very possible.

Often considered America’s rough little brother, this english speaking nation is a great place to consider for fire security jobs abroad. Especially in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, the population is large and the tourism industry brings in an even larger fluctuation of humans. The government of Australia is openly seeking fire alarm technicians and fire alarm security engineers and installers. It has been publicly posted. For this reasons, the visa system is very friendly, as Australian work visas generally are. If you are in demand, the government will make it easy for you to live there. Some of the systems are different than the U.S., and must be studied, but are manageable to learn. Australia is also an exciting place to live with plenty of friendly people and outdoor wonders. If you are seeking some escape, or just a season of regular work in fire alarm security, Australia is the most recommended locale beyond the Unites States to seek it.

In the electrical industry, moving form job to job and project to project is a fairly recognizable way to work. While some electricians and electrical engineers will start their own firms and stay occupied with employment in the same realm for much of their careers, many electricians today are taking a less traditional approach to career building. Hard work and focus are almost always the best ways to advance, however in a bad economy and tough job market other tactics may be necessary to find success in the electrical field. Leaping from opportunity to opportunity and project to project is a new stratage for climbing the job ladder.

This ‘job leaping’ or ‘job hopping’ has both its benefits and its pitfalls. Especially for independent contractors, electrical work comes and goes, and one must jump on the opportunities that arise in the hope of staying employed and maying a living. Depending on the situation you are in, moving on in the hope of a better or more long-lasting opening may be a smart move. Because of the shifting international economic temperature, young jobs are less sure than they were in the past. Because of this, employment can dissolve at any moment, regardless of the care and time it took to build it. Electrical staffing companies are a huge boon to young electrical professionals, and keeping up a resume and good relationship with an electrical staffing agent can lessen the blow of a sudden lay-off. Unfortunately this unsure footing of the job market has caused workers to treat the job market with the same level of transience: why become committed to this one job when it could evaporate without warning?

The real cost-benefit analysis of leaping into a new electrical job comes between the measure of good available jobs out there, and the length of time you work between leaps. If your electrical staffing company helps you land an electrical job, even one you are overqualified for or that does not meet your pay expectations, working that job with full focus and commitment for a reasonable amount of time will make it easier for you to land the next, better gig. It is more manageable for an electrical staffing company to market your resume to a better electrical or construction company of they can prove you are a good and committed worker where you are. It is only common sense that while it looks nice at a glance to have variety on a resume, it will become quickly apparent that you are a floater and questions will arise about why you can’t seem to stay in one place. With all that in mind, many electrical employers respect a worker who knows their own worth and is willing to reach for new opportunities when the time is right. As far as building a career goes, consistency is still the best path, and while an electrical staffing company can help in the unforeseen event of lay-offs and job shortages, a steady build to success is considered the most effective way to break out of a starter job and move into a growing career.

The term ‘electrical agent’ can mean many things according to the circumstance in which is is used. Sometimes it refers to any noun that is affiliated electrically, as in, a lamp is an electrical agent. The term can also be used to refer to those engineers and technicians who do electrical work, like electricians and electrical distribution specialists. In the realm of electrical staffing, ‘electrical agent’ is most often used to refer to those recruiters who work for electrical staffing agencies.

This type of electrical agent does work much like a sports agent, except for electricians and electrical engineers instead of major league baseball players. The relationship between an electrical worker and their corresponding electrical agent is a very important one, particularly because many electrical workers are employed on a freelance basis. This means that they are contracted to work job to job and project to project and when one job ends they must procure another to continue to obtain income. Especially the electrical professionals who have specialized abilities or skills, like wiring for solar energy, teaching electrical trade skills or large scale electrical building design benefit from having an electrical agent on their side. These agents can serve the clients who seek highly skilled electrical workers, and are often compensated by those seeking workers as opposed to those seeking work. However, a small population of electrical agents get a percentage cut of the income the electrician makes on the projects they are sent out on.

Electrical agents, much like employment agents in other fields must have excellent people skills. Staying connected to the electrical and construction industry can be the most integral part of the job. While some electrical agents work independently and are, for the most part, self-employed, many work for construction and electrical staffing agencies. Within agencies there are tiers and levels of recruiters and agents with a varying ability to focus in on one client or electrical worker. It can be a good gig, being an electrical agent. The work is satisfying and personal; helping someone find work can feel very good. Electrical staffing particularly can be a wonderful way to support growth and renewal within any community. The financial compensation is good, often upward of $60K and the hours are reasonable. It is an attractive job for many people with the right training and personality.

While many electrical agents have no relationship to the field they represent, others have made the shift from in-the-field electrical work into employment representation. As networking is such an important part of the job, the connections made doing electrical work can serve those who choose to go into electrical staffing. These crossover individuals also have the unique ability to recognize the quality of a good electrical professional and follow their instincts as to what sort of work matches what sort of person the best. Electrical agent work is needed all over the country, and for that matter all over the world. The profession grows as electrical work grows. It is certainly a job path to be considered.

In the United States, there is an organized body dedicated to maintaining the standards and improving the quality of Life and Fire-Safety Systems. This organization, known as the AFAA – the Automatic Fire Alarm Association is headquartered in Jasper, Georgia and serves the purpose to promote education and quality throughout the fire alarm and safety industry. The AFAA also serves as a liaison organization between many other groups and professional institutions that have shared intentions in the field of Fire alarm security. Many states have their own chapters, and California is no exception.

contractors

The California Automatic Fire Alarm Association or CAFAA was founded in 1970 and the members generally include fire alarm monitoring and installing companies and businesses as well as those who manufacture and distribute fire alarm systems and technologies, individual professionals and engineers, and fire and building officials. The basic idea, is that for those whose jobs involve fire alarm security and safety in the state of California, cooperation and collaboration can only bring efficiency and growth to the industry, and ultimately help to save lives and property. The CAFAA is represented on a variety of national code committees of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association).

The CAFAA is so important to the fire alarm companies of California not only for the setting of standards in the state, which are some of the most rigorous in the country, but also because the organization is responsible for the education, training, and licensing of the professionals within this important line of work. This licensing for fire alarm contractors is done through the State Contractors License Board. The CAFAA also help to certify the quality and efficiency of fire alarms and fire security tools. Health and Safety codes, as well as the knowledge on opinions of the state Fire Chiefs and Marshals are also taken heavily into account.

Joining the organization and becoming an active member has its advantages for fire alarm security contractors in California. The CAFAA has a member directory to connect professionals and training seminars every year at lowered member prices. These measures help professionals connect, find jobs and find workers in a fairly niched contracting world. There are physical meetings regularly scheduled and the CAFAA endeavors to gain the most recent knowledge of industry news and innovation and share this knowledge with its members. The website is well maintained, and is being tweaked to be an even more efficient channel of casual news as well as legal and code-based regulations and rules. A professional tool both in networking and in information sharing, those working fire alarm security jobs generally find the benefits of the group well worth the yearly membership fees.

The CAFAA is a professional boon to fire alarm security contractors of all sizes and services within the state of California. Their online bookstore and wide area of fire professionals help to provide contractors with as much access to helpful data and wisdom as possible. These measures help to promote and grow the industry and the individuals and businesses who do this life-saving work.

A well-trained crew is a successful crew, which is why Outsource is proud to provide entry-level training for prospective cable installation technicians. Recently, in both Los Angeles and San Diego, 17 entry-level technicians completed an intensive four-day training program that resulted in job placement for all 17 technicians in structured cabling positions. The training was intended to accomplish three main goals: instill a foundational knowledge of industry standards and practices for our technicians, provide them with additional skills necessary to meet and exceed these standards, and familiarize them with cabling workplace culture. These three elements allow a new technician to do their job effectively and to integrate into a crew more quickly. At Outsource, we want our technicians not only to understand what they do, but also why they do it. Our structured cabling technicians are trained to understand how their skillsets and their line of work fit into the overall operation of daily life. Voice and data systems are critical utilities that underpin much of our modern-day commerce and communications. Communication media are expected to be reliably available at all times, whether it be Internet connection in hotel rooms or the ability for point-of-sale systems to relay credit information to a bank to complete a retail purchase. Structured cabling is the essential groundwork for this communication to take place, and our immersive training allows us to provide our clients with crews that not only perform the technical aspect of the job safely and effectively, but also understand the important role they play in the big picture, as well.

The biggest growth presently in energy technologies is renewable energies. Solar Power is no exception. While a few years ago solar panels where a ‘space-age’ technology you could investigate a science museum, today businesses, residences and public power companies harvest energy form the sun regularly to supplement more traditional sources. Especially in sunny and hot regions of the Unites States, where there are many daily hours of sunshine, people are finding it a more and more logical choice to turn to solar power. This new demand for solar energy and its technologies, means that there is also new demand for solar power installers and technicians. Universities and vocational schools are offering new programs in the subject, and companies that are already proficient in the technologies are apprenticing new laborers.

In basic terms, the energy of the sun’s rays becomes trappable when it hits and object and becomes heat- (think a metal chair sitting in the sun). When sunlight hits some materials, however, turns into an electrical current, and this is how we utilize it for energy. Solar cells used to be made of expensive silicon, which proved capable of capturing light energy, but is difficult to grow in large enough crystals to be sustainable. Silicon was discarded in lieu of newer development, and now, generally cheaper materials that require smaller light-gathering crystals are used like copper-indium-gallium-selenide. This equipment is more flexible and easier to use.

Sometimes these solar panels are installed and maintained by companies that contract specifically solar energy projects, while others are dealt with by electrical and construction firms that have a solar branch. Such companies often require Solar or Photovoltaic Engineers, as well as Energy and Electrical Engineers and technicians. Since the solar energy is being converted into electrical energy, usually an electrical background is helpful. Some of the work is job to job, as solar technologies are installed and kept up in residences and homes. Others are more long term and deal with the development of this technology or more broad care at solar fields and plants. Contractors seeking new workers as they grow frequently turn to agencies that can provide reliable solar energy staffing. Often staffing companies that offer solar energy labor can also recommend and even provide training in this new technology.

In the cases of home and business installation, a solar tech’s first job to to asses what the customer really needs. As solar power presently cost more to install than it saves the consumer immediately, is it important to help weigh the costs, while providing assurance that with time, solar energy can be financially beneficial. These cost estimates are part of the consultation process and tend to have more bend to them that with other energy technologies. To find qualified and certified individuals is it useful, once again, for private individuals and contractors to seek solar energy labor through trusted staffing agencies to ensure they find technicians who can give them the most cost benefit. Solar energy is clean and sustainable and while it currently represents a small fraction on the energy used today, those numbers will surely grow as technology changes and becomes more affordable, creating even more opportunities in the field.

Electrician & Breaker Panel

Even as technologies change and become more complex, most residences and businesses still rely on the expertise of trade professionals to maintain the daily functions of their buildings. Electricians, for instance, are needed not only for the wiring and set up of new construction, but also for the upkeep of electrical systems as they age. Electrical staffing agencies provide and invaluable service both to electricians seeking work and to employers seeking electricians. Usually, such staffing services accept resumes and information about the applying electricians and help to match up the qualifications provided with those required by employers for specific jobs and projects. There is usually also an interview process, saving time for both parties who then do so just once instead of multiple times. The service is generally free to the individual electricians, and it is the staff-seekers who usually pay the staffing agency for allocating their workers. In some cases, the electrician will even be paid by the staffing agency instead of directly by the business they end up laboring for.

Staffing services are particularly useful to certified electricians because their work tends to be on a short-term, even one-time basis unlike many other workers who find their work recurring. In fact, if an electrician has done his or her job and done it well, they hopefully will never need to do it again. Thus, electricians will be in a constant search for the next job. Those who create a good report with a staffing agency will have a more streamlined, less pressured experience finding a good amount of labor. Also, because electrical work is considered a tradesman’s craft, electricians can depend on the negotiation of a fair wage for the job done.

While some staffing agencies specialize in only electrical job placement, there are also many companies and sites that do broader construction and trade placement as well. These agencies that have a wider scope usually fold electrical work into their larger umbrella of construction and trade. Specialized staffing services may be beneficial because they tend to be specific and knowledgeable of the specific trade they place in, and may appear more adept and trustworthy because of that specificity. However, larger projects that require more than one specialty will often save time and money by going through a single company for all of their staff instead of contacting multiple types of agencies. Being able to hire carpenters, plumbers, project managers, electricians etc. all at once and all through the same service saves the employer time, confusion and money. In this way, multidisciplinary staffing companies may be more beneficial to job seekers and employers alike. Larger projects may need to hire more workers, upping the chances of hire and income to electricians represented by the staffing agencies they use. Also if a company has had success in the past hiring one type of worker through an agency, for instance, carpenters, they are more likely to hire other sorts of workers, (like electricians), through the same agency.
